Meet Lauren Kate, a 9 year old, B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) warrior.
Born with Down syndrome, Lauren has already shown a lifetime of strength and when her family noticed she wasn’t acting like her usual self, was more tired than normal and had large bumps under her neck. Concerned, her mom quickly made an urgent appointment with their primary care doctor.
“The day Lauren was diagnosed began like many others, but soon everything changed. Her mom had noticed that Lauren wasn’t acting like herself—more tired, and with large bumps under her neck—so she quickly scheduled an urgent appointment with their primary care doctor. During the visit, the doctors shared alarming news: Lauren’s white blood cell count was abnormal, and she needed to go immediately to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Her mom rushed her there, hearts racing and minds filled with worry. At the hospital, tests were run quickly, and as the hours passed, the tension and fear in the family grew. Finally, on September 23, 2024, the diagnosis came: ALL-B Cell leukemia. The moment was overwhelming—shock, fear, and disbelief washed over everyone—but it also marked the beginning of Lauren’s courageous fight. Though no one could have anticipated the journey ahead, her family immediately rallied around her, determined to support their sweet girl every step of the way.”
To date, Lauren has had several lumbar punctures and a port insertion. She has received multiple rounds of chemotherapy, bone marrow procedures and countless days away from home.
Outside of her cancer journey, Lauren enjoys watching her favorite television show, Bubble Guppies, and spending time with her sister, Emma. “Even during hard days, these little joys show just how vibrant and fun loving Lauren truly is.”
