The First 48: Marlowe

Marlowe was diagnosed with high risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 3 years old. She is almost done with treatment, which should be completed on 5/8/2026.

What’s one thing you wish you had known in those first 48 hours?

“That although my life was turned upside down that day, that my child would become the strongest little girl I know.”

What helped you the most in those first 48 hours?

“Prayer and support from family and friends is what got me through the first 48 hours. In the moment it was all so overwhelming but it helped me tremendously.”

What’s is one moment in those first 48 hours that you’ll never forget?

“I will never forget it, my husband had been with us for several hours in the Emergency Department but had to go home to our other 3 children. The moment the doctor came into the room and asked me to step into a private room my life would never be the same. I instantly knew it was not going to be the outcome we were hoping for. I had to call my husband to let him know the news and that will forever break my heart.”

If you could go back, what’s one thing you’d tell yourself?

“If I could go back, I would be more gentle with myself… the guilt can weigh so heavily on parents/caregivers that you blame yourself. Take it moment by moment, minute by minute because this journey can be long, unpredictable and brutal. You child is so strong, resilient and will teach you so much throughout this journey. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your understanding. Allow those from your life or even community to help you and support you. It’s okay to ask and accept help, it will help you navigate through your toughest moments.”
