Meet Macon, a 3 year old B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia warrior.
Macon was taken into the pediatrician for his routine two-year checkup and after a finger prick blood test, the doctor noticed extremely high white blood cell counts. He was sent straight to the hospital.
“In a matter of hours, our entire lives changed. After hours in the emergency room and further testing, we were told Macon had leukemia. We were in shock, fear and disbelief. We went in expecting a normal well visit and left facing a life-changing diagnosis. It felt unreal, especially since Macon had no symptoms and seemed perfectly healthy.”
Macon went into treatment immediately and had a port placement done twice because of a serious staph infection in his blood. He’s received chemotherapy and had multiple lumbar punctures. Additionally, Macon underwent multiple bone marrow biopsies to test the amount of leukemia in his bone marrow as well as a lumbar puncture every six weeks.
Currently, Macon is undergoing long-term chemotherapy that will span over two and a half years. He is a playful little boy who loves being outside, playing with his sister, riding toys and laughing with his family. According to his mother, Madeline, “he just completed his first year of leukemia treatment and has handled chemotherapy incredibly well. His weekly blood work continues to show no circulating leukemia cells and his treatment is working as expected. He remains in active treatment and if all goes well, Macon is expected to complete therapy and ring the bell in May 2027.”
