2025 State Proclamations

Help ACCO Secure State Proclamations in YOUR State!

Cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease for children in the United States. That’s why every September, ACCO leads the effort in recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month through State Proclamations!

A State Proclamation is a powerful way for governors to acknowledge and bring visibility to important causes. For more than five years, ACCO has proudly partnered with advocates across the country in a united effort to secure more than 45 state proclamations each year. This year, once again, we are aiming to secure all 50 states – and are asking you to partner with us to help make it happen.

Governors often require a request from a resident before issuing a proclamation. By simply contacting your governor’s office, you can help bring hope, recognition, and urgency to the fight against childhood cancer.

What About Kids?

What About Kids

If state funds have been allocated to adult cancer research, we must ask ourselves… what about kids?

The majority of cancer research at the state level is dedicated to adult cancers, not childhood cancers. ACCO’s first success in reducing this gap occurred in Kentucky by passing legislation, which resulted in Kentucky’s first appropriation for childhood cancer research. Since then, ACCO has been successful in securing legislation and almost $120 million in appropriations for childhood cancer research in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Nebraska, and Virginia. As ACCO continues to spread this success across the country, ACCO’s goal — and the goal of “What About Kids?®” — is to secure $250 million in appropriated funds for childhood cancer by 2030. Together, we can make childhood cancer a state health priority in funding and policies for kids fighting cancer and long-term childhood cancer survivors.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of the American Childhood Cancer Organization!
