Go Gold®

The American Childhood Cancer Organization is leading a national and international effort to GO GOLD®, a campaign to transform public awareness of the gold ribbon as the symbol of childhood cancer. We believe awareness leads to outcomes and only with increased public awareness can a movement begin to win—and end—the fight against childhood cancer.

Childhood cancer is the number one disease-related cause of death in the United States. Two-thirds of all children who survive will face a chronic side effect from the toxicity of their cancer treatment, with one quarter of these being severe to life-threatening. Despite these devastating statistics, only 3 new drugs have been approved by the FDA for specific treatment of pediatric cancer in the last 20 years. This compares to more than 182 cancer drugs approved by the FDA to treat adult cancer during the same period of time.

ACCO believes that for meaningful change to occur, the non-profit, government, and corporate communities must work together and think creatively – outside the box – to raise awareness and change outcomes.

ACCO is also extending the awareness campaign to state governments across the country. Currently, 32 state governors have signed a proclamation of support recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. With a goal of pushing that number to fifty, Amazon is utilizing their public policy team to support ACCO’s goal of having 100% participation in the effort.

In September, we encourage you to join us in the movement to GO GOLD® and take action to end the fight against childhood cancer. How will you be a part of changing the outcome for the approximately 16,000 children diagnosed with cancer in the United States this year?
